“…..experience the difference” is a phrase that has resonated with me as I speak with families who are inquiring about HCA as a possible educational home for their family. So, what makes us different?
We are a Christ-centered community. In all we do and say, we desire to emulate Christ. This drives the integration of a biblical worldview in our classes. It impacts our interactions with students and parents and our conduct on ball fields, and it guides our reactions and actions within our current culture. Research indicates that most people who have a biblical worldview in adulthood formed their values and assumptions before the age of 13, but no later than the age of 20. From the day a student enters Kindergarten, to the day of graduation, he/she will be influenced by approximately 16,000 hours of classroom instruction. If this time is spent in a godless school, your child(ren) will be consistently taught that the answers to life are found in themselves and not in the living Word of Jesus Christ. Furthermore, in a recent report by the Barna Group, one quarter of 13 to 18 year-olds strongly agree that what is morally right and wrong changes over time based on society, and that individuals are their own moral arbiter. Christian education is in a unique position to fight against moral relativism that has become deeply rooted in our society.
We pursue excellence in all that we do. We desire to constantly grow and evolve in all that we do because if we are truly emulating Christ, then our educational programming, facilities, attitudes, and behaviors should reflect this. We desire to give families a strong educational program in a safe and Christ-focused environment that challenges all students to excel in their faith walk, academic pursuits, fine art endeavors, and athletic goals.
We prepare our students to be transformative.A godly, Christ-focused teacher, teaching his/her subject matter through the lens of Scripture, is powerful in preparing students to be a transforming influence. One of the fundamental principles of Christian education is teaching studentsnot to conform to the pattern of this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of the mind. When Christian educators partner with like-minded parents and a strong sending church, we are breaking the stronghold that this world has on our children and teens and preparing them to impact their culture and to become transforming influences, which is certainly worth the investment.
