DACULA, Ga. – Partnership Gwinnett hosted the Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) reception last week, honoring 78 recipients from 36 schools in Gwinnett County, including HCA senior Sarah Mix and language arts teacher Mrs. Stacey Warbington.

The students were formally recognized at a banquet sponsored by Partnership Gwinnett, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, the Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation Fund, Inc., Primerica, Surcheros, and the University of Georgia Gwinnett Campus.

“Gwinnett’s long-term economic success depends on a strong, prepared talent pipeline, and that pipeline starts with students like these,” said Kevin Carmichael, Senior Vice President of Economic Development for Partnership Gwinnett. “Thanks to the wonderful teachers and school system infrastructure here in Gwinnett, these STAR students are being well prepared for expanded career paths beyond graduation. Celebrating their achievements is an investment in the future workforce that will power Gwinnett’s industries.”

Sarah Mix received the STAR Student Award after ranking in the top 10 percent of the Class of 2026 and achieving the highest SAT score in a single sitting. She has attended HCA for 10 years and has excelled throughout high school, currently holding a 4.60 GPA while completing 12 Advanced Placement courses. She plans to attend either Duke University, Emory University, Vanderbilt University, or the Georgia Institute of Technology in the fall, where she intends to major in neuroscience and French.

Sarah selected Mrs. Stacey Warbington as her STAR Teacher after taking her AP English Language class. Mrs. Warbington is in her ninth year at HCA and her 12th year overall in education.

The STAR honor is awarded to seniors who rank in the top 10 percent of their class and earn the highest SAT score. The program aims to recognize academic achievement in the state of Georgia, honor excellence in teaching, encourage students to pursue education and teaching careers, and demonstrate the business community’s commitment to excellence in education through partnership and sponsorship.

Started in 1958, the STAR Student and Teacher Program shines a light on Georgia’s outstanding high school seniors and the educators who have made significant impacts on their academic and personal development. Each year, more than 70 students are recognized statewide.
