DACULA, Ga. – Partnership Gwinnett hosted the Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) reception last week, honoring 75 recipients from 33 schools in Gwinnett County, including HCA senior Isabella Annett and social studies teacher Mrs. Dawn Lyon.
The event, sponsored by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators and PAGE Foundation, was held at the John C. Maxwell Leadership Center in Duluth on Feb. 1. More than 200 students, teachers, and guests attended the annual event.
“Gwinnett County is home to some of the nation’s best high schools,” said Partnership Gwinnett Director of Workforce Solutions Autumn Andrews. “We are honored to celebrate these talented students who represent our future workforce and the teachers who have made a difference in their lives.”
Isabella Annett received the STAR Award as she sits in the top 10 of the Class of 2024 and has the highest SAT score taken in one sitting. She has attended HCA since the fourth grade and excelled throughout high school, currently holding a 4.52 GPA while taking 11 Advanced Placement courses. She plans to attend Samford University in the fall and is a finalist for their University Fellows Program.
Isabella selected Dawn Lyon as her STAR Teacher after taking her AP United States History class last year and AP Seminar this year. Mrs. Lyon is in her sixth year at HCA and 16th year overall in education. She currently teaches AP Human Geography, AP United States History, and AP Seminar.
The PAGE STAR honors the highest-achieving high school seniors and their most academically influential teachers. Students must have the highest score on any single SAT taken through the November test date of their senior year with their SAT scores equal to or higher than the 2023 national average scores on the evidence-based math, reading, and writing sections, as well as rank in the top 10% or top 10 students of their class based on their GPA.
