DACULA, Ga. – The Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) has selected Hebron Christian Academy sophomore Eloise Jones to participate in its four-week instructional program this summer at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.

The GHP is a residential summer program for gifted and talented high school students who are rising juniors and seniors. The program offers instruction significantly different from the typical high school classroom, designed to provide students with the academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders.

Only 1% of all sophomores and juniors in Georgia are nominated for the program, and HCA had eleven students nominated. Ruth Mindra (Dance) and Danny Tolbert (Visual Arts) were also named semifinalists and participated in the interview process.

The following students were also nominated: Kamila Araya Ruiz (Communicative Art), Hannah Farley (Communicative Art), Robby Hoffman (Jazz Guitar), Nathan Jacob (Social Studies), Cameron Mulvehill (Theatre), Samantha Smith (Visual Arts), Ansley Solly (Communicative Art), and Jason Utayev (Social Studies).

“The Governor’s Honors Program is one of the most prestigious academic opportunities available to students in Georgia,” said Dr. Matthew Annett, Head of Upper School and Associate Head of School at Hebron Christian Academy. “We are incredibly proud of Eloise for earning this distinction, and we also celebrate each of our students who were nominated. Having eleven nominees reflects both the exceptional talent of our students and the strength of our academic program.”

The GHP will be held mid-summer as a residential educational experience at Georgia Southern University. Students will attend classes in their specific areas of study in the mornings and afternoons and will participate in a wide variety of social and instructional opportunities each evening. Eloise Jones will concentrate in Communicative Art.
