WATKINSVILLE, Ga.- The Hebron Volleyball team captured the GHSA Region 8-AAA Championship on Saturday after a 3-1 win over Oconee County.
After the game, head coach Taylor Davis was recognized for being the 8-AAA All-Region Coach of the Year.
Girls played outstanding yesterday. Truly pleased with our ability to win under pressure and play to our standard of volleyball. Yesterday was truly a team victory that everyone had a big impact in the matches," stated Davis.
In an intense matchup against the Warriors, the Lions prevailed 25-20, 19-25, 25-17, 25-14 to make the sixth region championship in program history.
Key players Aubrey Cowart (15), Addison Griffin (14), and Jordan Simpkins (11) led the Lions in kills. Seniors Simpkins has recorded 230 kills so far this season. In serving, Rane Bartkowski and Ari Rowland tallied three aces on the day.
Defensively, Maila Silva and Griffin rallied for 17 digs each to help the Lions defeat the Warriors. Brooke Thao had 36 assists in the title game.
"With 3 of the top 5 teams ranked in the state in our region we take a lot of pride with being able to come out on top. Proud of our team representing our school extremely well on and off the court."
