DACULA, Ga.- The Hebron Christian Academy girls volleyball team will be back in action for their first games of the season this week.
The Lions will face three opponents on Thursday, August 10. HCA will square off against host Mountain View at 5 p.m., Forsyth Central at 6 p.m., and Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
Junior Brooke Thao was named 2023 Gwinnett Daily Post Super Six honors for girl's volleyball. Thao tallied 806 assists, 205 digs, 79 kills, and 47 aces and she was selected First-Team All-County last season.
Head coach Taylor Davis is in his eleventh year at the helm of the HCA varsity volleyball program.
"With only two returning seniors this year we expect to have a ton of growth throughout the season. While it may take a few weeks to get comfortable, I know we are going to have a solid team in October. This group is a highly committed group that has worked extremely hard this summer to prepare for the start of the season. I look forward to seeing the continued improvement they will have from the start of the year throughout the entire season," commented Davis.
The Lions finished last season with a 30-17 overall and 5-2 regional record on the season. They finished Region Runner-Ups after falling to Sandy Creek in the fifth set 15-13.
Entering the 2023-23 season, the Lions rank second in the 3A Region behind Hart County.
This season HCA will be returning two seniors, seven juniors, and three sophomores. Returning starters for the Lions include seniors Kayla Lane and Rane Bartkowski along with juniors Thao and Malia Silva. The Lions will be adding three freshmen to their 2023-24 roster.
"There is a strong outlook for this upcoming season even though we may be young and inexperienced. The girls have worked incredibly hard over the summer with a high level of commitment in the sand, indoor, and weight room," stated Davis.
