DACULA, Ga.- The Hebron varsity football team prepares for their first home game of the season with a scrimmage against Troup County at Burlingame Field on Friday, August 11. The game is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start.

The Lions are under the direction of Jonathan Gess, who is in his second year as the HCA head football coach. Gess led the Lions to a 9-3 record last season and 3-2 regional record. HCA fell to Cedar Grove 70-33 in the Sweet Sixteen. The Lions have advance to the state playoffs for the past seven seasons since the program began in 2007.

In the state 3A rankings, HCA is one of the top three teams in the county alongside Hart County and Monroe Area.

Offensively, the Lions look to senior wide receivers Justin Hornick and Gerritt Kemp along with transfer quarterback from Buford Thomas Stallworth. The Lion offense will rely heavily on seniors Dean Maynard and Deacon Maynard to lead the offensive line.

Defensively, Hebron has a plethora of talent with linebacker Andrew Faucher, cornerback Sian John, and defensive tack Simeon John.

"We are super excited about the scrimmage tomorrow against a tough opponent in Troup County. This will show us whether we are ready to compete at a state championship level," said Gess. "It's just a fun group to be with and all the seniors are bought into the season and it all starts tomorrow."
