DACULA, Ga.- The Hebron football team dominated on Friday night after a 37-6 victory over No. 2 team in the state, Stephens County. The Indian finish the regular season with a 9-1, 4-1 record while the Lions improve to 6-4, 3-2.
Prior to the game, Hebron honored their sixteen seniors including managers and their accomplishments throughout their career.
Entering Friday's competition, the Indians averaged 33.7 points per game. Stephens County got on the board first with a three-point field goal in the first quarter, the Lions were scoreless in the first.
HCA came to life in the second as the team scored ten points to take the lead. Senior JT Hornick had a 55 yard rushing touchdown to help the Lions go up 7-3 with 10:52 left in the second. Nils Cole hit a three-point field goal to increase the Lion lead to ten points heading into the half.
Coming out of the half, the Lions continued to build off their momentum in the first half. Jarvis Mathurin had his fourth touchdown of the year after a run score with seven minutes left in the third. Thomas Stallworth found Noah Hill in the end zone with 1:27 left in the third.
Hebron scored fourteen points in the fourth to take the victory over undefeated Stephens County. Devon Caldwell had his twelfth score on the year after a 27-yard touchdown run.
The Lion defense was unstoppable and very physical to only hold the Indians to six points and 85 yards of offense on the night. Standout Carrington Coombs led the team with eight tackles, two sacks, and five quarterback pressures. Max Steve accounted for eight tackles and one interception.
"The team went through a lot of adversity in the season. We have been trying to figure out who we are offensively and how we all piece together as a team. It all came together tonight and an awesome victory over the No. 2 team in the state 37-6," said head coach Jonathan Gess.
