Lions Fall Short As Monroe Area Wins in Overtime 17-14

MONROE, Ga.- The Hebron football team came up just short as the Lions dropped a 17-14 decision to Monroe Area on Friday night. The Purple Hurricanes improve to 4-3, 1-1 while the Lions fall to 3-4, 0-2.

The Lions rallied and scored on the first offensive play of the game for HCA with a 75 yard touchdown pass from Thomas Stallworth to Gerrit Kemp. Stallworth has four passing touchdowns while Kemp has three scores on the season.

The Hebron defense held steady to not allow any points by the Hurricanes in the first half. In stats, Drew Faucher has a total of five sacks and had two tackles with one of them being a sack. Carrington Coombs and Logan Moulder were unstoppable defensively as two had a total of 2.5 tackles each. 

Heading into the locker room, the Lions maintained the 7-0 lead. 

In the third quarter, Hebron doubled their lead with a 61 yard touchdown pass to Kemp once again. This marked his second score of the game for the Lions. HCA carried that momentum into the fourth quarter with the 14-0.

The Purple Hurricanes had fourteen unanswered points in the fourth quarter. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Monroe Area answered with a rushing touchdown by Darrion Manuel. With six minutes remaining in regulation, Monroe Area had another rushing touchdown to tie the game at 14.

The Lions could not find the end zone with six minutes remaining, leading the game to go into overtime. Monroe Area was able to kick a field goal on their possession to win the game 17-14. 

Up Next: Hebron will have a bye-week next week, but will return to action for homecoming against Franklin County on Friday, Oct. 20.
