CARNESVILLE, Ga.- After a three game series against region foe Franklin Co., the Hebron softball team was crowned GHSA 8-AAA Region Champions after a 8-2 victory over the Lions.

"We have worked so hard to make this region title a possibility and with us being under the weather the outcome looked bleak, " said head coach Brittany Lewis. "However, we were surrounded by prayer and support, and last night these girls played with a supernatural strength that I can only credit to the Lord. He has truly blessed our team and our program and I have nowhere else to give credit to but Him." This marks the first region championship under the direction of Lewis. 

Hebron went 21-9, 9-1 in the regular season with their only region loss to Franklin Co. The Lions have won their 10 of the last 11 games on the year. On Tuesday, the Lions went 1-1 with a loss 9-2 and win 8-0 to Franklin Co., leading the series to go into a decisive third game on Wednesday. 

HCA had two runs in the second, three in the sixth, and three in the seventh to defeat the Lions. Addi McCullough and Brittany Sissom tallied two hits each for the Lions while Jaycee Thornhill recorded two runs on the night. 

Gwen Hill pitched on the mound for the Lions with an earned run average of 2.00 and eleven strikeouts.

"Our staff is phenomenal, our parents are amazing, and these kids are fighters, but we couldn’t do any of it without the Lord. We understand that softball is something we do, it isn’t who we are. When we buy into that, we can play with freedom and confidence that only comes from Jesus. It was a special night and something these girls will always have in their memory bank for the rest of their lives. Go Lions!"

Up Next: With this win, the Lions will host the first round of state on Monday, Oct. 16 and Tuesday, Oct. 17. Times and opponents are to be determined.
