PHOENIX, Ariz. - The No. 12 Hebron girls basketball team opened the first round of the Nike Tournament of Champions with a victory over No. 19 and unbeaten Hazel Green 59-48 on Monday night.
Junior Aubrey Beckham recorded 17 points, four rebounds, and two assists. JaKerra Butler had 17 points and 12 rebounds off the glass. Mia James added 13 points and two assists on the night.
The Lions improve to an undefeated 9-0 on the season with their next game against the No. 1 team in the nation, Long Island Lutheran, on Tuesday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m. (MST), 2 p.m. (EST) at the Legacy Sports Park.
The Lions are on a 41-game winning streak after having a perfect 32-0 season and winning the Class 3A state championship.
"I thought the second half we did a lot better defensively. Our bench players really stepped up and I think that the players we have and the experience they are getting will make a huge difference for us down the road, just like it did tonight," commented Jan Azar.
