Dr. James Taylor Announced as Hebron Christian Academy’s Head of School
Dacula, GA: The Hebron Christian Academy Board of Directors is pleased to announce Dr. James Taylor as the new Head of School, effective July 1, 2020. “James is a proven, confident leader with a demonstrated history of building meaningful relationships in a community of teaching and learning,” says Scottie Johns, Chairman of the Board. Dr. Taylor will be moving to Hebron from Calvary Day School in Savannah, GA.
Dr. James Taylor brings many years of leadership experience, including:
  • Launched an Academic Enrichment Program allowing kids with special educational needs to receive a Christian education.
  • Restructured and expanded the Board of Advisers promoting growth, professionalism, 
  • excellence.
  • Directed the improvement of the school’s SAT/ACT scores to the top 5% of the nation.
  • Received the Blue Ribbon of Excellence in 2017 through the National Department of Education in Washington, DC.
  • Developed a STEM Program changing the approach to education in every class.
  • Started an annual Spiritual Emphasis Week and witnessed hundreds of kids (and often their family members) accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior over the past 15 years. 
Dr. Taylor holds a B.A. in English from Messiah College, where he was the Pennsylvania Student Teacher of the Year in 1993, an M.A. in Literature from Bridgewater State University, an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership from Bridgewater State University and an Ed.D. in Educational Administration from Georgia Southern University.

Head of School Monthly Update

The Head of School Search Committee has reviewed 46 qualified resumes and have vetted the list down to a handful of candidates.  We are currently in the process of interviewing multiple individuals with the hope of providing a recommendation to the Board of Directors by the end of 2019.

The Head of School Search Committee met multiple times throughout the month in order to to review submitted resumes Interviews of select candidates have begun and will continue through the month of September.  The position will remain open for the committee to continue to accept applications through Sept/October 2019.

The results of the digital survey to staff and parents were summarized and presented to the Committee and Board. As a result of the surveys, five voluntary parent and two voluntary teacher focus groups were conducted to discuss and further refine the results. The committee has met to discuss the findings of the focus groups and the committee is in the process of reviewing resumes received to date.


A call for applications for the Head of School position has been communicated through media, Hebron website (Head of School Search Tab), and officially posted on various education websites.  Applications and resumes will be collected through August 2019 at which time the search committee will review and begin the process of selection of candidates for interview.  A digital survey of parents and faculty/staff was completed that requested input on various traits that the search committee should look for.  The results are being compiled and will be utilized with focus groups made up of parents and faculty/staff sometime in June.


The Board of Directors has formed a search committee and they met for the first time. 
The committee discussed an initial timeline for the search with the goal of having the new Head of School in place by July 1, 2020.  The committee also approved the position profile/job description, advertisements, as well as created a survey that will be sent out parents and teachers to help discern the traits and qualities of the new leader for the school.
