The HCA Difference
It is a question thousands of parents ask every year: "Why a Christian education?"
The one-word answer to that question is
truth. God as Creator and Lord has spoken principles into existence that are pillars for all thoughts and activities which underpin and guide the educational process.
If the aim of education is to gain knowledge, get into a good college, equip our students for the workforce, and be good citizens contributing to the economic and social wellbeing of our country - while noble, we fall short.
If our aim is sourced from an eternal perspective understanding that we are educating eternal lives for the advancement of the Kingdom of God in all subject areas, then we have an institution that calls our students forth to understand who they are, what they are called to do, and whom they serve. Christian education equips students for greatness.
A caution must be proffered, however. Christendom often gains its strength by pointing out the faults of other perspectives. We need to understand that Christian schools do not exist because secular education fails to possess an eternal view about its students and subjects or because public schools are larger and have less discipline.
We exist because God has decreed by His word that all things exist in and for Him. Christian schooling was His idea so that the ideals, ideas and principles can be applied for the sole purpose of revealing Him.
We stand on the unity of the premise that all truth is His, which means that we study all types of authors, philosophies, and perspectives and place them under the lens of His dominion.
Literature, for example, can point to the depravity of man and at the same time exalt man as avatar of his own being. The Christian mind probes both perspectives, honors them and yet learns about oneself and the creation that yearns for expression.
While evolution has weaknesses as a theory and is not true, creationism is not made strong as a result. Creationism stands to prove itself by virtue of the implicit order and complexity of all things.
As servants of the "only wise God" we are called to understand the times and thought processes of a fallen world to reveal Christ. We do so because Christianity makes things whole and does not just point out the brokenness of secular thinking and living. Thus, the Christian school brings wholeness to the domain of education.
A Christ-centered school has a living philosophy which drives its educational methods. Our methods encourage reflection and reasoning so that creativity can flourish and greater degrees of intellection can be formed. Building connections in our students' thinking and increasing capacity for learning through nurturing educators who foster a love of learning is an expected outcome for the Christian school.
You can also count on HCA examining all that it does so that all that we do honors Christ. Students' minds are equipped and hearts are transformed; that is the call of the Christian school. You can see that at HCA.
