Elementary Art
Kindergarten - 5th Grade:
Elementary students attend art once a week. The art program covers all the areas applicable to the elementary levels including clay sculpting, painting with multiple medias, drawing technique and art exposition. Students are introduced to many popular artists and learn the particular method of their style.
Students participate in the Original Works program in the fall providing the opportunity to have their creations reproduced on different products such as coffee mugs and mousepads. Artwork created by students is also used in displays throughout the year on the elementary campus and at various school-wide functions.
Intermediate Art
Grades 9 - 11: This course is designed to provide students with experiences in a variety of art materials and techniques. Students will be challenged with technique and craftsmanship and independent exploration. There is a focus on developing critical thinking skills through art criticism and aesthetics. Art History and connections with other disciplines are made through the projects.

Advanced Art
Grades 10 – 12: This course is designed to challenge the students in developing a personal style and refine art techniques, media and craftsmanship explored in Intermediate Art. The lessons will provide opportunities to prepare a portfolio for Advanced Placement Art or college acceptance.
Both Courses of study involve: drawing and painting, sculpture including ceramics, digital photography and digital media.

Graphic Design
Grades 10-12: The prerequisite for this class is Intermediate, Advanced Art or a high school Computer class. This course introduces the students to art intended to communicate information and advertising. The focus is on studying and using layout and design concepts including digital photography, typography, layout and design. Students will also explore current trends in the graphic design field. Students will utilize current software CS4 Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator. Through presentations and critiques they will be encouraged to develop communication skills necessary in the graphic art field. The course lessons provide students with opportunities to show work and develop a print media portfolio.

Advanced Placement Studio
Grades 11-12: This course is for students that are seriously interested in Studio Art at a college level. The student will develop a portfolio that consists of three sections with a total of 24 original artworks that displays the students’ mastery in media and techniques and the development of a personal style. The students are required to submit a portfolio for evaluation at the end of the course to the College Boards for grading.

Yearbook
Grades 10-12: This course provides both design and journalistic opportunities for the students in the development of the schools annual. Students will utilize current software CS4 Photoshop and Indesign software. Students are encouraged to attend a summer workshop as a staff and make a commitment to stay on the staff for duration of high school career.
